How To Make A Simple Bag Using Wrapping Paper

We all have piles of wrapping paper that we only use when the holidays roll around, and then they get neatly tucked away in our storage and forgotten about.

Sometimes they are so forgotten that we buy new ones for every holiday, and they keep piling up and wasting away.

In this day and age of environmental awareness, we mustn’t let these materials go to waste. It is also economic to repurpose your wrapping paper for something more than just a pretty disguise for exciting gifts: bags!

We use bags everywhere we go and for many different purposes. So here are some ways you can make a bag out of all the wrapping paper you have stacked up!

How To Make A Simple Bag Using Wrapping Paper

Ways To Make A Bag

If you don’t have enough wrapping paper to wrap a gift, or it has ripped edges or a hole somewhere, you can always construct a bag out of it and use it to store gifts for any event, such as a birthday, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, or anniversary.

We’ll teach you how to manufacture two distinct sorts of bags: the first is the quickest and is just a paper sack.

It’s ideal for retaining irregularly shaped things. The second is a more traditional-looking gift bag, similar to those in shops. Both are simple!

Basic Wrapping Paper Bag

Cut the wrapping paper

Begin by cutting your wrapping paper to a size that is big enough to cover anything you’re wrapping completely.

Fold and tape

Put the paper right side facing down and start folding each edge to the middle, leaving a tiny overhang. Tape the paper down.

Size it up

Fold the bottom of the bag up and toward the top. Make it large enough to accommodate your gift.

Create a triangle

Pull the top layer of the paper up to the top to form a triangular shape. Repeat on the opposite side. Fold the ends toward the center, again ensuring some overlap.

Tape it up!

Tape the bag’s bottom shut, and you’re done! Fill it up by opening the top, which you can also fold the top over and hole punch with ribbon, or tape it and add a bow or any decorative piece you like.

Wrapping paper and ribbons

If you already have the two major ingredients, wrapping paper, and satin ribbon, the cost is $0.

On the other hand, it is inexpensive; a bundle of 6 yards of satin ribbon costs less than $2, and 120 square feet of wrapping paper costs less than $10.

With these items, you can make up to 20 little gift bags, which means one gift bag will cost you less than a dollar.

Prepare the paper and make the first fold

Depending on the size of the bag you want to make, leave a few inches on both sides of the paper. We’re working with a 9 × 6-inch sheet of paper. Place the paper flat on a surface. Allow 1 cm (9 inches) extra along the longer side, then fold the excess length in half.

Adhere the side

Apply glue along the excess 1 cm of paper, then fold it inwards to connect it to the other open side of the half-folded paper. Our bag’s side is now closed.

Fold the bottom side up

Fold up 2 inches of paper from any open end to make the bottom side of the wrapping paper bag.

Open the bottom and fold the corners

Open the bottom section’s two edges. This should result in triangles on both of the left and right of the bottom section and two flaps (top and bottom).

Fold it down

Fold the top flap in half, matching the open end with the center crease on the bag pattern’s bottom side.

Fix the bottom

Take the bottom flap and fold it in half and overlap it slightly with the open end of the top flap. To secure the bottom side of the wrapping paper bag, apply glue to the flaps and sides.

Fold the sides

Consider the bottom and top corners of the squares as a guideline and fold the two sides of the present paper following the lines. For nice wrinkles, make tidy folds.

Fold the side folds

Unfold the final two folds. Blow through the open end of the paper bag. This will unfold the previous stages’ side and bottom folds.

Inside, fold the middle crease

Fold the outside creases neatly inwards and the center creases on both sides. Repeat on the other side of the bag.

Make the handles

Cut four pieces of paper and two small pieces of satin ribbon long enough to construct the wrapping paper bag’s handles.

Connect the handles

Apply glue to both open ends of a satin ribbon and connect the bonded ends with the open end of the bag, directly in the center and inside the bag.

Attach the little square pieces to the open ends of the ribbon.

Connect both handles

Attach the second satin ribbon handle in the same manner. Use different colored and patterned wrapping sheets and satin ribbons to add interest.

Conclusion

Recycling materials you have at home are excellent ways to engage in community service and a fun way to be environmentally friendly.

The recycling process can be more enjoyable when the result may be used, reused, and changed as desired. Regarding sustainability, paper bags offer certain advantages over plastic bags.

They are easy to recycle and may be used for composting because they are biodegradable.
